How the osu! Tapping Test Works
Tap your two keys (Z and X by default) as fast and as evenly as you can. The timer starts with your first tap. When it ends you get your average CPS (taps per second), your stream BPM, your fastest stretch (Peak BPM) and your unstable rate. Click either key box to rebind it. Only your two keys count.
CPS to BPM: How Fast Are You Streaming?
osu! streams are 1/4 notes, so four taps make one beat: BPM = CPS × 15. 10 CPS is 150 BPM, 12 CPS is 180 BPM, 14 CPS is 210 BPM and 16 CPS is 240 BPM.
📊 What Is a Good Tapping Speed?
Under 120 BPM — 🐌 Warming up · 120–150 — 🙂 Average
150–180 — 👍 Fast · 180–210 — 💪 Very fast
210–240 — 🔥 Pro · 240–270 — ⚡ Godlike
270+ BPM — 🏆 Inhuman
🎯 What Is Unstable Rate (UR)?
UR shows how even your taps are: the standard deviation of the time between taps in milliseconds, times 10, like the UR in osu!. Lower is steadier. Under 100 is very consistent; over 200 means your rhythm drifts. A steady stream at a lower BPM usually plays better than a fast, uneven one.
Improve Your Stream Speed
Alternate your fingers strictly instead of pressing with one, keep your wrist relaxed, and practise at a BPM you can hold for 30 seconds before pushing for higher bursts. Use the 30s and 60s timers to train stamina, and watch your unstable rate: speed is only useful if it stays even.
Playing osu!mania Instead?
osu!mania is a different game mode: notes fall in 4 to 7 columns and players measure speed in KPS, not stream BPM. Test it in the osu!mania mode of our Keys Per Second (KPS) Test, with 4K–7K and custom keybinds. Clicking with the mouse? Try the CPS Click Speed Test.
